Rodriguez is regional champion in her weight class

Dilley’s Aundrea Rodriguez and Kassidy Romero were first and second in their weight classes to qualify for the state powerlifting meet following competition at the Region V Class 3A, Division II Championships in Edinburg on Thursday, February 29.
Rodriguez won the regional title in her weight class, winning the division with a total weight of 955 lbs. She posted lifts of 415 lbs. in the squat, 220 lbs. in the bench press and 320 lbs. in the deadlift. Romero was second at 181 lbs. with a total lift of 810 lbs. Her lifts included 365 in the squat, 185 in the bench press and 260 in the deadlift.
“I’m super proud of all of the girls on making it to regionals,” DHS Head Coach Ismael Rocha said. “They have come a long way since the beginning of the season. With us having such a young team, I can’t wait to see what the next few years has in store.
“Kassidy and Aundrea still have a lot left in their tank to show the rest of Texas what it means to have Wolf Pride.”
Zaylee Martinez narrowly missed out on a state berth, finishing third in the 114-lb. weight class. Jenessa Mendez and Kayla Molina were both seventh in the 105 and 198-lb. divisions while Abriella Kayl was eighth at 148 lbs.
The Texas High School Womens Powerlifting Association State Championship Meet for Class 3A is on Thursday, March 14 at the Comerica Center in Frisco.
