Interim supt. has 24 years’ experience in education

Kelli DuBose
The Dilley ISD Board of Trustees announced last week that the interim superintendent is the lone finalist for the position that was vacated last year when Supt. Emilio Castro resigned.
Longtime teacher and administrator Kelli Smith DuBose has served as superintendent since last August and, after applying for the lead position, is the top pick for the job.
A 1996 alumnus of Dilley High School, DuBose is a 24-year veteran in education, having taught at the elementary school in Dilley for 17 years and as a tutor at all grade levels, and has served in the district administration for more than seven years. She became assistant principal at Dilley Elementary before being picked to serve as the district’s director of curriculum, instruction and assessment.
DuBose holds a degree in interdisciplinary studies from Sul Ross State University with a specialization in reading, and a master’s degree in education with a principal’s certification from the same university.
The school district is required by law to wait 21 days after naming its sole finalist in the application and hiring process before officially giving DuBose the job whose duties she has been carrying out for more than eight months.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve and work alongside our great students, staff, and parents at Dilley ISD,” the interim superintendent wrote in a prepared statement from the district after the trustees’ decision was handed down Monday evening, March 25.
