Vehicles packed with bundles of confiscated narcotics are ready to transport the cargo under supervision from county law enforcement officers to Hondo, where the contraband is incinerated.
Over 600 pounds of marijuana will never reach Frio County streets after transport last Tuesday to an incinerator.
The illegal narcotic, which has been confiscated over the course of 20 years, was transported by Frio County investigators to Hondo to be destroyed on May 7.“These cases were made, prosecuted and adjudicated in both state and federal court jurisdictions,” Chief Deputy Peter Salinas said Tuesday morning. “While this evidence may have been ready for disposal some time ago, many of these types of tasks are overlooked due to the process being somewhat meticulous and requiring several sign-offs.”
Salinas offered thanks to the Hondo Police Department for allowing the use of its incinerator for disposal of the narcotics.
“We are thankful for the 81st District Attorney’s Office assisting in getting this task done,” the chief deputy said. “There is much more work to be done both on site at the sheriff’s office and at the Frio County Courthouse where additional old processed evidence is ready for disposal.”
