DILLEY WOLVES FOOTBALL
Rodriguez scores three TDs, Reyes runs for 172 yards in Dilley loss.
Randolph scored twice in the fourth quarter, overcoming a pair of Dilley leads to take a 33-22 decision last Friday at Mickler Memorial Field in San Antonio.
Johnny Rodriguez accounted for all three Dilley touchdowns while Bubba Reyes ran for 172 yards in the losing effort.
The Wolves held a lead early in the fourth quarter but the Ro-Hawks leaned on their running game and took advantage of a Dilley turnover to score twice and steal the 11-point victory.
“Our boys did a great job competing against a bigger and physically more talented team,” DHS AD and Head Football Coach David Silva said of his squad. “We came out and played physical and had the lead 22-19, early in the fourth quarter. Their quarterback broke contain on a third and 15 to end the third and they marched it down about 60 yards and scored after that.”
A fourth quarter interception late in the game led to Randolph’s final points that put the game away.
“They scored late in the fourth, all from their quarterback, who was the difference running the ball late in the game,” Silva said.

Along with the late turnover, Dilley was unable to take advantage of a pair of drives inside the redzone.
“We got in the Red Zone twice and came up empty on points, but we moved the ball well,” the coach said. “Now, we get healed up and get better at a few things and we’ll be fine.”
The Wolves were without the services of playmaker Isaiah Lambert who was nursing a high ankle sprain.
“He tried to run on it during pre-game but it didn’t feel good, so, we kept him out of the game,” Silva said of the decision to sit Lambert.
Trailing 7-0, the Wolves tacked on a pair of scores to grab a 14-7 advantage through halftime. Rodriguez went in from five yards out and ten yards in the first quarter and the margin held through the half.
The Ro-Hawks would rally in the third, scoring twice to go up 19-14 heading to the fourth.
Rodriguez would add his third touchdown of the night, capping a drive with a six-yard touchdown run to put the Wolves up. Bubba Reyes went in for two as Dilley reclaimed a 22-19 lead.
The Ro-Hawks would then score twice to reclaim the lead and pull away for the win.
Offensively, both teams posted similar numbers as Randolph totalled 311 yards and 13 first downs while Dilley finished with 287 yards and 15 first downs.
Rodriguez ran for 48 yards on 13 carries and three scores and also went four of 12 passing for 40 yards with an interception.
Reyes was named the team’s offensive and defensive player of the week. Defensively, he had seven tackles, a sack and a tackle for a loss to go along with his 172 yards of offense.
Joziah Ramirez was named the Lineman of the Week.
Dilley will be off this week as they enjoy some time off during their Bye week. The Wolves will open District 15-3A, Division II play on Friday, September 27 at home against Natalia in a 7 p.m. contest.
