Dilley, Cotulla players account for 37 spots on 15-3A, Division II football honor team.
Wolves, Cowboys dominate all-district team following playoff runs
Dilley and Cotulla both saw numerous players named to the 2024 15-3A, Division II All-District Football Team following successful playoff runs by each squad.
The Wolves crushed Odem in their bi-district opener but were upended in the second round by the Tidehaven Tigers while Cotulla rolled past Santa Rosa in their postseason opener but were then topped by Van Vleck in the area round.
Dilley saw 18 members of their team named to the all-district squad while Cotulla had 19 players earned recognition on the team.
Named to the all-district first-team for the Wolves were Bubba Reyes – running back, Isaiah Lambert – running back, Johnny Rodriguez – quarterback, Joziah Ramirez – guard, Jonathan Eguia – tackle, Reyes – linebacker, Rodriguez – linebacker, Juan A. Garcia – outside linebacker, Jacob Lopez – cornerback and Leve Lopez – outside linebacker.
Second team all-district selections for Dilley included Eric Rodriguez – center, Lopez – running back, Troy Gonzales – wide receiver, Garcia – running back, Miguel Suarez – guard, Chris Medrano – tackle, Quentin Elizondo – tackle, Javian Garcia – end, Gonzales – cornerback and Lambert – safety.
Earning honorable mention were Osio – tackle, Armando Gauna – wide receiver, Santiago Cruz – kicker, Javian Garcia – tight end, Milo Eguia – center, Jonathan Eguia – tackle, Joziah Ramirez – end, Juan Garcia – punter and Joseph Lopez – outside linebacker.
Cotulla first-team all-district selections included Alex Medina – quarterback, Eric Aldaco – fullback, Jose Gonzales – running back, Gerardo Gonzalez – offensive line, Deric Aldaco – defensive line, Aldaco – linebacker, Ricardo Ruiz – linebacker and Frank Torres – defensive back.
Second team selections included Victor Moreno – offensive line, Joe Rodriguez – tight end, Deric Aldaco – offensive line, Devin Ramirez – wide receiver, Marco Benavidez – linebacker, Brayden Rodriguez – defensive back, Gonzalez – defensive line and Jose Gonzalez – defensive back.
Earning honorable mention for Cotulla were Brayden Rodriguez – wide receiver, Rene Barrera – utility player, Miguel Hernandez – offensive line, Rodrigo Mendez – utility player, Ryan Sanchez – wide receiver, Moreno – defensive line, Alberto Aguero – defensive line, Joe Rodriguez – defensive line and Jimmy Rodriguez – linebacker.
A number of Cotulla players also earned honors on the Academic All-District team. They include Deric Aldaco, Marco Benavidez, Jose Gonzalez, Alejandro Medina, Victor Moreno, Ricardo Ruiz, Ryan Sanchez and Frank Torres.
Dilley went 9-3 this season and were 6-1 runners-up in league play. They knocked off Odem 47-35 at bi-district before falling to Tidehaven 56-14 in area play.
Cotulla capped an 8-4 season, going 5-2 in district and finished third in the standings. The Cowboys crushed Santa Rosa 50-7 in their bi-district contest before dropping a 35-14 decision to Van Vleck at area.
