PEARSALL SOFTBALL
Pearsall used a five-run sixth to pull away from Uvalde and then crushed Carrizo Springs 16-0 in three innings to win four straight in district play last week and remain a game behind first place Devine in the standings.
“Our bats were really on, changing it up from good hard ground balls, to small ball, to home runs.” PHS Head Coach Juan Soliz said. “I’m really proud of our small game, our opponents are used to Pearsall being power hitters, so they push their defense back allowing our small ball to be effective.
“Defensively, I couldn’t be more proud of my team for playing solid defense.”

Senior Kristen Morales belted a pair of homeruns in the fifth and sixth against Uvalde and added another, her 31st of her career, in the rout over the Lady Wildcats.
Uvalde played Pearsall tight through four innings, holding a 3-2 lead. Things changed in the fifth, however, as the Lady Mavs’ offense woke up. Morales belted her first homerun in the inning, scoring two as Pearsall regained a 4-3 lead.
Jesslyn Gutierrez then singled to open the sixth, scoring two runs. Morales followed up as she homered to center field, scoring three as the Lady Mavs went up 9-3.
Morales tossed four innings in relief, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out six and walking three. Caitlyn Rodriguez started the contest for Pearsall, allowing five hits and three runs (none earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking none.

Alayna Zapata and Carly Elizondo led the team with three walks each. Zapata stole two bases as Pearsall finished with five stolen bases for the game.
Pearsall then put in a total team effort in the rout of Carrizo Springs on Friday night.
The team needed only three innings of work to claim the 16-0 shutout.
“I’m extremely proud,” Coach Soliz said. “Shout out to Kristen for hitting number 31 and Jeralynn for hitting a beautiful triple. Our defense was on point and our sticks were on fire.”
The Lady Mavs led 2-0 after the first and 5-0 after two. An 11-run third then sealed the win.
Pearsall hit the road Tuesday evening to take on 3-2 Pleasanton. The team will then open the second round of league on Friday at Devine. The team will be looking for a measure of revenge against the Arabians as they look to bounce back from their only loss in district play.
