CHS UIL
COTULLA HIGH SCHOOL members of the University Interscholastic League Academic Events team have advanced to the regional competition after taking part in the District 28-3A event at Dilley, Thursday to Saturday, March 27-29. Eight school teams competed at the district meet. The CHS team earned second place at the district level in speaking events and fourth place as a team in journalism events. Advancing to regionals in journalism are Robert Jordan, 2nd place, and Emma Reynolds, 3rd place; in prose interpretation, Isabella Garcia, 3rd place; in persuasive speaking as regional alternates are Jade Machado, 4th place, and Paul Gonzalez, 5th place; in informative speaking as regional alternates are Jules Lovell, 4th place, and Ava DeLaRosa, 5th place. Lincoln Douglas Debate had Keira Rico in first place, Brooklyn Kuenstler in second and Dante DelReal in third to qualify for regionals. Cotulla High School was the first-place team in the Number Sense, Calculator Applications and Mathematics contests, with regional qualifiers at Number Sense, Emma Reynolds, 2nd place; Hayden Ayala, 4th place; and Sienna Arevalo. The qualifying Mathematics team includes Hayden Ayala, 3rd place; Emma Reynolds, 4th place; Kamryn Thomas, 6th place; and Robert Jordan. The qualifying Calculator Applications team includes Emma Reynolds, 1st place; Paul Gonzalez, 3rd place; Sienna Arevalo, 6th place; and Hayden Ayala. Journalism events included Copy Editing, with regional qualifiers Emma Reynolds, 3rd place; Robert Jordan, 4th place alternate; and Paul Gonzalez, 5th place alternate. Feature Writing had Aries Lopez, 4th place alternate; and Isabella Garcia, 5th place alternate. Ready Writing had Hayden Ayala, 4th place alternate. In Science, Emma Reynolds took 5th place as regional alternate; Jules Lovell took 8th and 2nd place and earned the top score in Biology. The third-place team in Social Studies includes Jules Lovell, 6th place alternate. In Spelling and Vocabulary, the team placed second and Jolie Benavides was in 2nd place to qualify for regionals.
