Annual Claybusters Shootout awards nearly $8,000 in scholarships
The Frio County 4-H Claybusters held their 16th annual South Texas Scholarship Shoot-Out on Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6 at the Keystone Ranch in Pearsall.
Saturday’s events included a 100 bird Sporting Clays course orchestrated by R&R Trap Sales & Service. A 50 bird 4-H Whiz-Bang competition and Flurry game on the side was also held while Sunday’s event was a 100 bird Sporting Clays course.
This annual event brought approximately 130 4-H youth and sponsors from across the state to participate and $7,800 in scholarships were awarded.

Results from the event are as follows: S1/S2 Ladies: first place – Kailee King, second – McKayla Naranjo, third – Madison Brown.
Intermediate/Junior Ladies: first – Raegan Holdman, second – Elle Vanderzee, third – Korbin Alderson, fourth – Abigail Patrick, fifth – Hannah Patterson.
Open Sporting Clays: first – Bill Ethridge, second – Trey Crawford.
Open Whiz-Bang: first – Bill Ethridge, second – Michael Thomas.
Sr 2 Finals: first – Eddie Barrera, second – Ty Schverman, third – Kyle Crisp, fourth – Jett Smothers, fifth – Braxton Rokyta.
Sr 1 Finals: first – William Edgmon, second – Noah Ruby, third – Dalton Fojt, fourth – Albert Perez, fifth – Slyde Rokyta.
Intermediate Finals: first – Cline Magnum, second – Stone Rokyta, third – Maximiliano Cienega, fourth – Cash Lociano, fifth – Carter Word.
Jr Finals: first – Ace Evans, second – Karsen Chalkley, third – Case Wilkerson, fourth – Logan Curnutt, fifth – Robert Bringier.
