2025 UIL TRACK & FIELD STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
First Lady Wolves’ state qualifier in 38 year, senior sets new school mark, again.
A strong senior run culminated in a sixth place finish at the UIL State Track and Field Championships in Austin and capped a record-breaking career for Dilley High School senior thrower Dakota San Miguel earlier this month.
San Miguel set a personal best throw of 39′ 4-3/4″ in her final attempt of the shot put finals at the state meet and placed sixth overall at the event.
“Dakota did a good job of not letting the setting of the state meet affect her,” DHS Head Coach Gus Torres said. “She competed really well and PR’ed (personal record) at the state meet on her final high school throw.
“We are all extremely proud of her.”
San Miguel entered the state competition touting the ninth best throw across the state through regional action and was able to improve her standing at the event and improve by three places.
In finishing as the sixth best thrower in Class 3A, San Miguel capped a high school career that saw her break the Dilley school record for shot put six times over the course of her three years at the varsity level.
She also became the first Lady Wold in 38 years to earn a spot at the state track meet.
The senior drew accolades at Dilley’s Spring Sports Awards banquet this week, earning the track and field Most Valuable Player award for throwers and was also named the Top Overall Lady Wolves MVP.
