De Parranda, Siggno headline evening dances
The city of Pearsall will host its sixth annual Hispanic Heritage Festival this weekend, a celebration of the cultures, traditions and contributions of the Hispanic community.
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated nationally to highlight the rich culture of Latin communities woven into the American fabric and the influences of the Mexican culture found across the United States.
The family-friendly two-day event is held at the Victor Trevino Sports Complex at 811 West Frio Street beginning Friday, October 10.
Event coordinator Albert Martinez, owner and operator of Motormouth Productions, reports the festival features live music, local food vendors, tournaments, craft booths, and more.
Headlining Friday night is award-winning Tejano band De Parranda, taking the stage at 11:30 p.m.
Earlier that evening, entertainers will include Yahari at 5:30 p.m, followed by Tropa Estrella at 7:30 p.m., and Loca Pasion at 9:30 p.m.
On Saturday, Ezpada performs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., followed by local Tejano band Massizo at 7:30 p.m.; Control takes the stage at 9:30 p.m. and award-winning Tejano band Siggno will be Saturday’s headliners with a dance beginning at 11:30 p.m. to close out the two-day event.
The second annual six-on-six co-ed volleyball tournament takes place on Saturday. There is a $100 registration fee per team; those interested in participating should call Gilbert at (830) 444-7612. Check-in begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday; matches start at 5:30 p.m.
Event organizers have included a washer-pitching tournament to the list of activities on Saturday with check-in beginning at 4 p.m. There is a $20 per team entry fee; criteria is set for a 5-3-1 scoring format to 21 with prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. Those interested in participating should contact Delmar at (830) 267-0141.
Parking for attendees will be in the open area to the west of the complex. The parking entrance will be off Gilliam Road near the wastewater treatment plant; there is no fee to park.
There is a $5 entry fee at the festival for those ages 10 and older. Children ages 9 and under are admitted free. Gates open at 4 p.m. both days.
