Wild Hog Weekend includes county fair, cook-off, junior livestock show, ranch rodeo, dances
Cotulla High School student and FFA member Trevor Peters was awarded the grand championship for his steer at the 2026 La Salle County Junior Livestock Show last weekend.
The steer went to auction on Saturday, March 14, and sold for $18,000 to Bowman Energy.
The event took place during Wild Hog Weekend, Thursday to Sunday, at the county fairgrounds on Hwy 97 in Cotulla, where festivities included the annual Wild Hog Cook-Off, the county fair Food Show, the Cotulla Ranch Rodeo, a children’s pet parade, and a variety of family activities, entertainment, games and a carnival.
The annual Wild Hog Parade processed down Main Street in Cotulla on Saturday morning with floats decorated in the theme of this year’s fair, ‘Year of the Wild Hog – The Legend of Boaris & Tusk,’ a recognition of La Salle County being designated by the state legislature as the Wild Hog Capital of Texas during 2025.
Grand opening ceremonies to kick off the fair on Thursday afternoon included a presentation by US Congressman Henry Cuellar, who commended the La Salle County Fair Association on its decades of volunteer work in organizing and developing the fair to involve all community members, boost tourism, encourage youth participation and award scholarships to those pursuing higher education, and for helping boost the local economy.
Dances hosted at the Fair Pavilion on Friday and Saturday nights included performances by Los Palominos, David Lee Garza, Ezpada, Aaron Watson, Kin Faux, and Garrett Talamantes.
The La Salle County Junior Livestock Show was judged on Thursday and Friday for a range of youth projects from the 4-H and FFA, including cattle, swine, goats and poultry, as well as shop projects.

The annual David Wolfe Excellence in Leadership Award was presented Saturday to CHS senior Dannika Walker in recognition of her years of dedication to agricultural education and livestock projects as well as her example to her peers and to younger students in the organizations.
