Mayorship
I have had the pleasure of serving in the capacity of Mayor for the city of Pearsall from May of 2021 to May of 2026. I am grateful for this privilege and want to thank the citizens of Pearsall for this honor. There are many components to operating a city and learning how all those work and work together has been a highlight for me. I have been blessed to work with and alongside the city manager Fred Reyes and have enjoyed working with the city council as well. This council has had to face numerous tough issues and there has been a spirit of cooperation that has allowed us to work through these. Not always agreeing but in those cases agreeing to disagree with a solution and then moving on. The city is rich in the resources we have at our department levels; Utility Director, City Secretary, Police Chief and those that operate directly under them. There is so much that goes into the day to day at the city, running a waste water treatment plant, water plants, gas systems, police department, solid waste and parks & recs. These are positions that in some cases require high level licenses that are not easy to obtain and mandated by state regulations. The value in our tenured folks that know where all the lines are and how to operate and direct these daily features is a skill set that most the times goes under appreciated, but highly beneficial to the city, and the smooth operation thereof. Pearsall is blessed to have dedicated knowledgeable and committed members of our management team and work force that meet these challenges day in and day out. I believe the staff will always endeavor to improve, but these members are professional and enjoyable to work besides and not doubt will continue to rise to the occasion.
A number of good things have happened for the city and there are a number of positive things on the agenda that will unfold in the near term. As mayor, I learned it can be hard to be proactive with so much coming in at the same time a good bit of the energy is spent reacting to what has happened. That being the case the city manager and council has continued to look to the future and address future needs, both in the near term and long term. There has been a learning curve for me and it’s been interesting to migrate through all these aspects of city management. I appreciate working with the other agencies and am grateful for the leadership at the county, school and hospital and believe good things lay ahead for all of us.
My wife and I have a home in the country near Pearsall but outside the city limits. Our desire to move there and make this our homestead is the reason I chose not to run again. We plan on maintaining our two businesses here, attending church here and Pearsall being our hometown as it has been for my wife her whole life and me since 1985.
Thank you Pearsall for allowing me to serve.
God Bless the City of Pearsall, the County of Frio, the State of Texas, the United States of America and You.
Ben T. Briscoe
Mayor of Pearsall
