America’s 250th Birthday Events

Frio and La Salle counties can expect an Independence Day holiday weekend packed with festivities, live music, tournaments, classic cars, and firework shows in Pearsall, Dilley, Cotulla and Encinal.

PEARSALL

The city kicks off a two-day festival beginning Saturday, July 4, featuring live entertainment, softball tournament, car show, food and craft vendors, and a fireworks display.

A softball tournament begins at 8 a.m. at the Victor Trevino Sports Complex with prizes for first through third place teams; the entry fee is $200 per team. There will be a $5 per person entry fee at the gate.

Admission is free for live entertainment that begins at 5 p.m. with Dilley native Braydon Foster, local artist Xavier Rendon, The Ybarra Boys, Loz Unikez, and ending the night is headlining act Tejano star AJ Castillo.

A fireworks display is scheduled for 9:30 p.m.

Event organizers are encouraging attendees to bring their lawn chairs and are cautioning the public that coolers are prohibited.

DILLEY

The city of Dilley will host a one-day event on Saturday that includes disc jockey music, live entertainment, food and craft vendors, and a fireworks display at 9 p.m.

The event will be held at the city park on Houston Street. Live music begins at 7:30 p.m. featuring Los Kamaradas. Braydon Foster takes the stage at 9:30 p.m., followed by The Hometown Boyz at 11:30 p.m.

COTULLA

The Saturday, July 4, celebration in Cotulla begins at 10 a.m. with a downtown parade along Main Street featuring floats representing local businesses, elected officials, classic cars, and emergency responders.

Independence Day festivities will be held beside the Martinez Park softball fields on the southeast side of Cotulla, where a softball tourney starts at 9 a.m. with teams that have registered in advance.

At least 30 vendors at the festival grounds will offer foods, beverages, toys and trinkets.

Participants in the free cornhole tournament will register between 3 and 3:30 p.m.; games begin at 4 p.m. at the park. Free Bingo games begin at 4 p.m. in the Martinez Park Pavilion.

Live entertainment begins at 5 p.m. with the Madelyn Abrameit Band, followed at 6:30 p.m. by Art Tijerina. Loca Pasion takes the stage at 8 p.m. for an extended show; and headlining act Los Tigrillos performs from 10:30 p.m. to midnight.

The traditional fireworks show begins at 9 p.m.

Visitors to the festival grounds at Martinez Park may bring their own lawn chairs and ice chests, but no glass bottles will be allowed

ENCINAL

Festivities in Encinal will be held Friday, July 3, at the city park, hosted by La Salle County. Events begin at 6:30 p.m. with more than 15 vendors offering foods, drinks, snow cones and other treats.

Live bands perform for the rest of the day, beginning with Grupo Ezpada, followed by Rodney Rodriguez y Los Cucuys, and headlining act Jaime DeAnda y su #1 Conjunto Show to close out the festival.

The Encinal fireworks show is set for 10 p.m. Friday.
