The District 20 Texas Retired Teachers Association held its Leadership Training meeting at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens earlier this month with nine members of the local HARTS chapter in attendance among the 121 members and guests from 13 different chapters.
HARTS President Earline Schlortt, past President Marianne Garrett and husband Mike Garrett, chapter Secretary and District 20 Volunteer Services Committee Chair Irene Dubberly, Chapter Member Benefits Committee Chair Sam Dubberly, Chapter Health and Safety Committee and Book Project Co-Chair Cindy Howard, former Chapter Volunteer Services and Book Project Committee Chair Lola Hill and members Irene Cox and Theresa Nehr were among those at the event.
Outgoing District 20 President Melissa Ramos conducted the last meeting of her two-year term.
Guest speaker and newly installed State Secretary-Treasurer Karen Hoelscher had the honor of installing the new District 20 Officers.

Uvalde’s representatives presented an appreciation gift to Ms. Hoelscher.
In addition to the business session, current District 20 Officers and Committee Chairs led break-out training sessions.
Appreciation awards were presented to District 20 outgoing officers President Melissa Ramos, first Vice President Bill Ed Kolinek, second Vice President Dr. Stella Carreon; Secretary Alba Barrers and six-year serving Treasurer Deborah Mills.
Chapter Legislative Chairs and Chapter Book Project Chairs received recognition awards from District 20 Legislatiive Chair Richard Herbst and District 20 second Vice President Dr. Stella Carreon, respectively.
Melissa Ramos provided special recognition to members of her executive committee support group, including HARTS’ Sam Dubberly for always being at meetings, ready to assist wherever needed, and appointed the 2025-2026 Audit Committee.
Incoming District 20 President Dr. Adele Murphy gave the closing remarks.
The next District 20 meeting will be for chapter presidents, on August 6 at a location to be determined by the District 20 incoming officers.
