Brenda Trevino pulled away in the final week of the season to hold off challengers Eddie Rendon and Sports Editor Manuel Azocar III and claim the 2024 Frio-Nueces Current Pigskin Poll.
Dilley dropped a 56-14 decision to state-ranked Tidehaven in an area playoff contest on Friday, November 22 while Cotulla lost a 35-14 decision to Van Vleck.
The Poll annually runs until all local teams have been eliminated from postseason contention.
Trevino finished with an overall mark of 70-18 to claim a three-game victory over
Rendon, who had a 67-21 mark. Martinez selected the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church as her charity of choice and will make a charitable donation of all of the players’ contributions to them, a total of $1,000 this year.
Azocar III finished third, four games behind Trevino.
Marcus Hernandez was fourth at 60-28 while Peter Salinas was fifth at 59-29 and Danny Cano was sixth at 58-30.
Justin Vela came in seventh at 55-33 while Johnny Martinez, last year’s winner and Juanita Rendon tied for eighth at 53-35 and Logie Rodriguez finished ninth at 51-37.
