Frio Regional Hospital celebrated a historic milestone in patient care Monday honoring longtime registered nurse Eric Collier with the hospital’s first-ever DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses.
The international award recognizes a nurse whose compassion, clinical excellence, and dedication make a lasting difference in the lives of patients and their families.
Collier, a 2003 Dilley High School graduate, brings deep local roots to the honor, having served patients at Frio Regional Hospital for over 20 years.
Nominations for the prestigious award can come from patients, family members, other nurses, physicians, clinicians, or staff who experience or observe extraordinarily compassionate care being provided by the nurse.
Hospital leadership presented the inaugural award Monday morning, emphasizing the foundational values the recognition brings to the local healthcare system.
“This award represents the heart of nursing and the extraordinary care our team provides every day,” Chief Nursing Officer Cassandra M. DuBose, MSN RN said Monday morning.
While Collier took home the inaugural plaque, hospital administrators noted that the nomination pool included four other local nurses who were formally nominated –
Zoe Medina LVN, Kathleen Torres ED, Luis Chairez LVN, and Michelle Smart RN.
“Congratulations to our first DAISY Award recipient,” DuBose said. “Thank you to every member of our nursing team for the compassion, excellence, and commitment you bring to our patients each day.”
