Carrie Jo (Vaughan) Roberts, age 97, died on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, with her son Gus by her side. She was born on January 26, 1923 to Clyde C. and Fannie Wickware Vaughan in Pearsall.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill Roberts, brother Clyde Vaughan, sister Mary McKinley and sister Dorothy Wright, and her dog, Collie.
She is survived by her son Gus Roberts (Beverly), grandchildren Cynthia Traylor (Dennis), Casey DuBose (David), Rhonda Levy (Wayne), Coy Ricord (Billie Jo), Shane Ricord, great-grandchildren (great-great-grandchildren), Amanda and Rob Stephenson (Emily, Olivia, Madilyn), Barret and Cara Traylor (Tristan, Addyson, Lawson), Colleen and Rome Burleson (Jocelyn), Ethan Traylor, Griffin DuBose, Porter DuBose, Britny and Charlie Stricker (Charlie, Cooper, Chloe), Weston and Chelsea Levy (Timber, Wade), Seth Levy, Cody and Kaylin Brown (Cannon, Chad), Bailey Ricord (Logan), Dillon Ricord, Luke Ricord, Faith Ricord, William Ricord and Gracie Ricord.
She was married to her husband Bill Roberts for over 40 years, and they had one son Gus.
During WWII she helped build bomb sights and after the war she was a physical education teacher and coach in the Pearsall schools. Bill and Carrie Jo owned and operated the Porter House Inn and restaurant for many years. The restaurant was known for Carrie Jo’s cooking, especially her buffets. She was an active member in the American Legion and Moose Lodge. Her hobbies included playing bridge on Fun Friday and making porcelain dolls and sewing.
Carrie Jo was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pearsall until she moved to Devine and became a member of Calvary Community Church in Castroville.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13 in the Frio Town Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Hurley Funeral Home, Pearsall.
