Margarita Medellin

Margarita Medellin, 87, died on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at her home with her son, Cesario, by her side following multiple surgeries and hospital stays due to an accidental fall she suffered in late March 2026. She was born on June 18, 1938 to Erminia Rios and is the stepdaughter of Alejandro Rangel.

She is preceded in death by husband Cesario Medellin Sr., her mother and stepfather, brother Lauro Rangel, sisters Victoria and Hortencia and their spouses, and her niece Wanda and nephew Robbie.

Maggie is survived by sons Robert Rangel (Ofelia) and Cesario Medellin Jr. (Tamiyo), granddaughters April Rangel Lidell (Jarrett), Barbara Lee Rangel (Yesenia Argueta) and Corina Rangel, great-grandchildren Abrielle, Aila, Caden, Jolee and Jackson, sister Diana Rangel Muriel, nieces and nephew Nora Galvan, Sandy Muriel, and Rudy Muriel, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Maggie began working before the age of 10 and was the eldest sister to four half siblings, Victoria, Diana, Lauro, and Hortencia Rangel. She became a mother in 1961 after giving birth to her first son, Robert Lee Rangel. After marrying Cesario Medellin Sr. she gave birth to her second son, Cesario Medellin Jr. in 1971. In 1984, she became a grandmother for the first time when April Rangel was born to her son, Robert and his then wife Lourdes. She had two more granddaughters, Barbara Lee Rangel, born in 1987 and Corina Elaine Rangel in 1996.

Three days following her 65th birthday, she became a great-grandmother when Abrielle Cerise Rangel was born to her granddaughter, April.

An avid gardener, Maggie also enjoyed raising chickens like her mother. She was a practicing Catholic and was a huge fan of professional wrestling. When Catholic Mass, Smackdown or WWE Raw were on she was glued to her television.

Visitation was held on Monday, May 18 at Peters Funeral Home from 4 to 9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 6 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Interment followed at the Rangel-Medellin Family Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Peters Funeral Home, Cotulla.
