Francisca Pina Gonzalez, 85, died on Friday, December 18, 2020 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on March 9, 1935 in St. Hedwig to Felix and Cruz Pina.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Humberto, siblings, Isidra Castro, Felipa Pina, Dolores Nava, Maria Mata and Eliseo Pina.
She is survived by her children Maria Teresa (Teri) Gonzalez, Humberto Jr. (Bear) and wife Esmeralda, Francisco Javier (Kiko/Frank), Graciela (Grace) and by granddaughter Victoria (Tori) Rae Gonzalez and honorary granddaughter Alyssa Longoria. She is also survived by her sisters Eulalia Salinas, Ramona Martinez, Cruz Sosa and San Juana Luna and by her brothers Felix Pina Jr. and Basilio Pina and by numerous nieces and nephews.
A devout Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, she was a past member of the Guadalupanas. She worked with the Jamaicas to help raise money to build the current church building. Like many of her generation, she grew up working from a very young age as a migrant throughout various states. She enjoyed the bluebonnets that bloomed every spring in her yard and her hobbies included quilting and giving quilts to each of her children and granddaughters. She was also a seamstress and made all of her daughters’ dresses when they were growing up and also many of their Halloween costumes. She would emphasize the importance of an education and encouraged her children to continue learning.
Visitation was held on Monday, December 21 from 8 to 9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral mass was held at the Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday, December 22 at 11 a.m.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Peters Funeral Home, Cotulla.
