PEARSALL CROSS COUNTRY
A promising start to the season ended with a painful finale for Pearsall as the cross country teams did not qualify a single runner to the regional competition following the District 29-4A meet in Floresville on Wednesday, October 12.
Pearsall’s Mavericks came up just short in their field as the team was fourth overall in the standings.
“We weren’t able to meet the expectations we had set for ourselves as a team,” Medrano said. “As a top team in the district, we came up just short from qualifying to regionals.
“With a disappointing end to the season, overall the progress and culture we have established here in our cross country program this season has been a great accomplishment. Furthermore, we have a very young group of kids in which we will be returning 25 runners next season, including our full boys team.
“As a whole, I believe we are headed in the right direction with a ton of potential to build on for next season.”
Pearsall’s Lady Mavs were seventh overall at the event.
“Our girls squad has dealt with injuries the past two months and we’ve missed a couple of runners the past meets due to band competition as well,” PHS Cross Country Coach Ricky Medrano said. “We started the season off great but, unfortunately, injuries played a factor into the season.
“Nonetheless, I’m proud of how they bounced back and finished the season strong.”
