Luna named Utility Player of the Year after contributing at quarterback, wide receiver and safety this season.
all four representatives of District 14-4A, Division II bowing out of the playoffs in the first round, members of the all-district football team were recently announced with 21 Pearsall athletes earning spots on the squad.
The third place Mavericks were well represented on the the squad this season, a year after only placing four members on the squad a season ago.
Junior quarterback and wide receiver Elijah Luna was named the District’s Offensive Utility Players of the Year while ten players earned first-team accolades.
Named to the all-district first-team offense were senior running back Joey Ramirez, senior tight end David “Bear” Rendon, senior tackle Joseph De La Rosa, junior guard Walter Smart and junior center Samuel Navarro.
Sophomore noseguard Israel Reyes, senior defensive end Gabriel Gutierrez, senior inside linebacker Corbin Norris, sophomore outside linebacker Kingston Martinez and junior strong safety Charlie Martinez were all named to the all-district first-team defense.
Earning second-team offensive honors were junior wide receiver Tristan Ellis, senior tight end Hector Monroy, senior guard Sebastian Carrillo and running back Kingston Martinez.
Rendon was named second-team defensive end, Monroy was second-team linebacker, junior cornerback Curtis Coronado Saenz and sophomore strong safety Xavier Rendon were second-team defensive selections.
Junior wide receiver Andres Enriquez, junior tackle Ryan Hughes, junior inside linebacker Orlando Selvera, junior cornerback David Hernandez and junior outside linebacker Shawn Rivera all earned honorable mention.
The Mavericks went 7-4 this season and were 2-2 in District 14-4A, Division II play, earning the third seed in the playoffs.
