Pearsall went 3-2 in tournament play, losing to Crystal City in the third place game in action at the 2023 Maverick Classic basketball tournament over the weekend.
The Mavericks were 3-1 in Pool play on Thursday and Friday and then fell to the Javelinas in the third place contest on Saturday.
“Our boys played very well in the tournament and finished 3-2,” PHS Head Coach Jeff Viesca said. “We played Boerne very well and were even up going into halftime.
“Crucial mistakes that Boerne capitalized on hurt us and led Boerne to win the game. We played Crystal City tough again, but just could not close it out. Overall, I am very proud of the boys on how they played throughout the tournament.”
Pearsall opened the event with a 59-55 win over San Antonio Edison on Thursday afternoon. The Mavs then crushed Cotulla 65-35 in the evening contest.
The Mavericks then took on the Greyhounds on Friday afternoon and dropped a 64-50 decision as Boerne pulled away in the second half. Pearsall then rallied to win a 53-49 decision over San Antonio West Campus in an early evening game on Friday.
In their finale on Saturday for third place, Pearsall lost a 57-46 decision to the Javelinas. Crystal City, former district rivals of Pearsall, have notched a pair of wins over the Mavericks this season.
Pearsall played host to the Hondo Owls on Monday, November 20 in a non-district tilt and will host San Antonio Christian on Monday, November 27 before taking off for the Corpus Christi tournament on November 30-December 2.
