Garcia, 74

Santiago Garcia, 74, died at his home surrounded by his family on February 1, 2024. He was born on December 5, 1949, in his hometown of Pearsall to Celia Garcia.

He is preceded in death by his brother Candido Garcia and mother Celia Garcia.

Santiago is survived by his wife of 40 years, Amparo Garcia, seven children, Lora Gomez and husband Emmitt, Dolores Roath and husband William, Delbert Pina and wife Leslie, Melinda De Leon and husband Omar, Fernando Garcia and wife Cynthia, Sarah Duran and husband Ricardo, and Catherine Garcia, siblings Elena Medelez, Pablo Hernandez, Julia Torres, Ruben Garcia, Joe Garcia, Oralia Chavera, Velma Pruitt, Lupe Berrelez, and Juanita Rendon, 26 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Santiago served in the United States Navy for 22 years and was a Food Service Manager for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 30 years.

He enjoyed woodworking and would spend hours meticulously crafting crosses, clocks, and various other items using his wood burner. Another pastime he enjoyed was fishing.

Funeral services and ceremonies were held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Pearsall on Friday, February 9. Visitation was at noon with a Rosary recited at 1 p.m. with Mass at 2 p.m. Interment followed at the Pearsall Veterans Cemetery.
