Librada ‘Libby’ or ‘Libe’ Perez, 97, died on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 7:32 p.m., under the care of the staff at Gracy Woods I Nursing Center in Austin. She was born on July 20, 1927 in Cotulla to Mateo and Luisa Perez.
She is preceded in death by her husband Rafael Benavidez, her parents, siblings Tomasa, Jesus, and Martin and numerous nieces and nephews.
Libby is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Antonio “Tony” P. Morin and Juanita M. Cruz played pivotal roles in Libby’s later years. Tony, who resided nearby, was a constant source of strength and comfort until his own health challenges arose and took their toll. In late 2022, after Libby experienced a fall and hospitalization, Juanita lovingly welcomed her into her home in Round Rock. There, Juanita provided dedicated care until her health began to decline in late 2023.
Libby transitioned to Gracy Woods I Nursing Center on December 23, 2023.
Libby spent over 40 years as a devoted employee of Ben Franklin’s in Cotulla. Following her retirement, she was a full-time caregiver to her parents.
Visitation was held on Thursday, December 5 at Trevino Royal Oaks Funeral Chapel in Dilley from 5 to 9 p.m. A Rosary was recited at 6 p.m. Funeral mass was celebrated on Friday, December 6 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cotulla at 10 a.m. Interment followed at the Cristo Rey Cemetery in Cotulla.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Trevino Royal Oaks Funeral Chapels.
