MAVERICKS BASKETBALL
Pearsall’s hopes for securing another playoff berth took a severe hit last week as the team dropped decisions to Uvalde and Carrizo Springs to remain winless in District 27-4A play.
The Mavericks made a furious rally, outscoring the Coyotes 20-8 in the fourth period to come back from a 40-28 deficit. Uvalde, however, outpointed Pearsall 7-2 in the extra stanza to claim the 55-50 win on January 20.
In another thrilling contest on Friday, Pearsall raced to a 14-4 first period lead and led 27-19 at the half, only to lose a one-point, 47-46 decision on their final possession to Carrizo Springs.

The Wildcats outscored Pearsall 28-19 in the second half to rally for the victory.
Both losses severely hamper the team’s playoff aspirations as the squad is now winless at 0-6 after the first round of league play.
Pleasanton sits atop the standings at 6-0 while Floresville, Somerset and Devine are all tied for second at 4-2 apiece.
The Wildcats are 2-4 while Uvalde is 1-5, leaving a small window of opportunity for the Mavericks to somehow salvage the season if they can pull off some wins in the second round of district play.
Pearsall was at Pleasanton Tuesday evening, January 27 and will host Devine on Friday.
