DILLEY TRACK & FIELD
Wolves, Lady Wolves finish fifth at Knights Starter Meet.
Despite a depleted lineup, Dilley’s Wolves finished third overall in field of nine teams in action at the Holy Cross Knights Starter Meet on Thursday, February 15 in San Antonio.
Dorian Aranda, a five-event district and area champion and regional qualifier a year ago, picked up where he left off last year, winning four gold and a bronze medal.
“It was our first meet back and we were still missing quite a few of the kids who are just coming out of basketball or playing baseball,” DHS boys’ head coach James Rodriguez said. “All of our athletes competed well and we were very pleased with the results being that it was our very first meet. We still do have a lot of things to clean up and need to plug in the new athletes we get, to give us our best shot at competing for the District 28-3A championship at the end of the season.”
Aranda recorded career bests at the event in the long and triple jumps and shattered his old school record in the triple with a leap of 45 2-1/2″.
“Last year’s 3A Region IV champion jumped a 44’7″, so we’re hoping for a great season of health, consistency, and progress from everyone,” Rodriguez said.
