Maria Elena Campos

Maria Elena Campos, 72, died on Friday, May 29, 2026. She was born on September 24, 1953, to Audelia and Librado Rios Sr.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, daughter Leticia Fuentes, brother Antonio Rios, grandson Romaldo Trevino Jr. and great-granddaughter Emory Campos.

Campos is survived by her children Rachel (Ram) Morales, Angie (Anselmo) Banda, Ana Jane (Romaldo) Trevino, Juan Jesus (Amy) Campos, Yolanda Campos (Robert Colchado), Gloria Linda Palma and Adolfo “Chico” Campos III, siblings Librado Rios Jr., Jose Daniel Rios, Ana Luisa (Horace) Ruiz and Jose Luis (Yolanda) Rios. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Maria Elena Campos married Adolfo (Quai) Campos Jr. and for many years, worked alongside him at Los Amigos Camp Ranch, where she prepared meals for others. Her homemade salsa was a favorite among many, and she became affectionately known as “Mama Maria.” She welcomed every ranch member and child with warmth and kindness, treating them as if they were her own.

A mother of eight children, Nena always enjoyed time with her family.

Visitation was held on Thursday, June 4 at Peters Funeral Home from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 4 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 12 p.m. Interment followed at the Encinal Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Peters Funeral Home, Cotulla.
